Report

The second game of the 24/25 AIL season took place in Deramore Park in Belfast on 28th  September. Partially cloudy sky and a light breeze created great conditions to produce a great game of rugby! Tries coming from great counter attacking rugby, set piece and some patience in opposition 22. Midleton opened the score cards with Jack Colbert converting a penalty following sustained pressure from Midleton and some strong defence from the Home side who treated the 22 like their try line, making it challenging for the good guys to get scoring opportunities. Midleton crossed the whitewash not long after with a well worked play to exploit the space on the outside, taking advantage of the quick line speed to get outside. Belfast Harlequins answered back with a great counterattack try from a box kick after some well worked play to get up the park and put themselves into a good position.

Belfast Harlequins made good use of their maul and it became a platform for them to attack from throughout the match and resulting in a number of their scores. Harlequins strong line-out made it difficult for Midleton to convert when kicking in the corner and took out some attacking options for the away side.

In the end Midleton’s never say die defence on the line helped them to a draw with the result showcasing how both teams were very evenly matched with Harlequins set piece making the big difference on the day.
