Midleton RFC 43
Dundalk RFC 0
On Saturday September 19th at Towns Park, Midleton RFC 1st XV comprehensively outplayed and outscored Dundalk RFC to record a 43 – 0 bonus point victory in our first home game of the season.
Midleton’s Stuart Lee ran in the first of the game’s seven tries with the side conceding none, in a performance that will surely help restore confidence following the last-minute two point loss to Boyne RFC the previous week.
The scores were spread evenly throughout both halves and reflected Midleton’s supremacy in all facets of the game. Backs and forwards contributed equally with a largely blemish-free performance. The Dundalk pack were effectively dominated in the scrum and suffered at the hand of their own indiscipline which saw referee Ken Imbusch send two of the Leinstermen to the bin.
Although Dundalk put up a valiant front, Midleton’s defence was only seriously tested on a couple of occasions. Any foray into Midleton’s 22 was summarily dealt with and play swiftly returned to the Dundalk half. Stuart Lee would go on to secure a brace of tries, converting 4 with the additional tries scored by Dave Smyth, Rob Smyth, Aidan McCarthy, Rob Carey and Captain Darren O’Keeffe.
This emphatic victory will stand Midleton in good stead as Division 2C table-toppers, Wanderers RFC visit Towns Park on Saturday, September 26th This should be a thrilling encounter and one not to be missed, kick off is 2.30pm.
