Club Notes

Message from Billy Glynn, President, Irish Rugby Football Union, to Midleton RFC

I am delighted extend my best wishes to club President, Andrew McCarthy and all members of Midleton rugby club.

I hope that you all derive every enjoyment and satisfaction from the season through all your team grades. The Midleton club plays a significant role in providing the facility of rugby in your area and be assured this service to the game is greatly appreciated.

Midleton RFC is a formidable force in Division 2A of the Ulster Bank League and I am pleased to note a fresh impetus in the competition following the introduction last season of the new record 52 club format.

Players and club supporters have responded enthusiastically to our new-look premier inter-club competition. This has helped to generate increased activity at clubs on match days. Last season was marked by many memorable games in all divisions and I anticipate another exciting competition this season.

Irish rugby across the board is experiencing many challenges as a consequence of our tough economic environment and I take this opportunity to commend the officers and members of all clubs for their efforts to maintain the well being of the game at club level.

I also express Union’s appreciation of Ulster Bank, the official Community Partner to the IRFU, for their sponsorship of the Ulster Bank League, the Bateman Cup, the Irish Club international team and the Ulster Bank Rugby Force initiative.

Best wishes to all at Towns Park.

Billy Glynn

President – IRFU
